Modern design and Czech tradition

Visitors to the Czech Houses in Olympic host cities can admire beautiful, traditional Czech glasswork in the form of works of art or light installations. Czech Olympic medallists receive special Olympic trophies to remind them of their greatest achievements every day. And by the way – biathlon star Gabriela Koukalová helped design the trophy for the medallists from Rio. A commemorative medal by LASVIT, which has been an official supplier to the Czech Olympic Team since 2012, was awarded to medallists from the 1968 Games.

In addition, the glass and design company created a new form of the prize named after seven-time Olympic gold medallist and Czech sporting legend, gymnast Věra Čáslavská. The award is intended for women who have made a special contribution to female sport. The shape of the trophy resembles the letter V, for Věra and victory, while at the same time symbolizing the gymnastic values of combativeness and pride – values embodied by Věra Čáslavská.

“We greatly appreciate our collaboration with the Czech Olympic Committee, because we see it as a great opportunity to promote Czech glass and Czech tradition, which we build on and continuously develop, in the world,” says Lasvit Vice-President Aleš Stýblo.

By the way, did you know that crystal trophies made in the Czech Republic are also awarded to the best riders in the most famous bicycle race, the Tour de France?
