The Olympic Games in Paris will take place from 26 July to 11 August and the Paris 2024 Olympic Festival will be held on the same dates. After eight years in Prague, Lipno, Brno and Ostrava, the biggest sporting event in the Czech Republic will return to a lake-side venue, this time in the town of Most.

The idea of the Olympic Festival originated in the Czech Republic and gradually spread to other European countries. “The aim of the Olympic Festivals has always been to bring children to sport and to bring the atmosphere of the Olympic Games to the Czech Republic. That is why we are glad that the Olympic Festival will take place in the Ústí nad Labem Region, where, according to the latest survey of the Czech School Inspectorate, the physical fitness of children is almost the worst in the country. We would like to change these numbers together with the Ústí nad Labem Region, the city of Most, sports federations, and our partners! And the biggest sporting event in the world is definitely a great opportunity to get children interested in sport,” says Jiří Kejval, President of the Czech Olympic Committee.

It is an opportunity for us to attract visitors from elsewhere and to show the Ústí nad Labem Region as a great place to visit, to play sport or to go on holiday.

The concept of the event remains the same, as it worked well after the COVID pandemic, for example, when the Tokyo Olympic Festival in 2021 brought many children into the sports clubs after the usual recruitment procedures didn’t work. The Czech Olympic Committee in cooperation with the sports federations will once again prepare a varied sports program which will enable the participants try a number of sports and get contacts of the nearest sports club. Olympic education and day camps for children are also included in the program.

“The entire world is watching the Olympic Games and this festival is a great opportunity to bring them directly to the people, especially to children, to let them meet top athletes as role models, to promote sport and any form of exercise. This is especially important in our region, and I believe that local children will not miss their chance to participate in the Olympic Festival. At the same time, it is an opportunity for us to attract visitors from elsewhere and to show the Ústí nad Labem Region as a great place to visit, to play sport or to go on holiday,” said Jan Schiller, President of the Ústí nad Labem Region.
